SillySeason looks into five players who should leave Old Trafford

Over the past few days, SillySeason writers have been looking into potential players who should consider leaving their current clubs.

So far, Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool have been covered and now it’s time to look at players who should consider leaving Manchester United.

With Louis Van Gaal planning yet another major summer spending spree, the following five players could see their game-time drastically limited throughout the next year or so.

So lets take a look at five players who we think should leave United for the sake of their career.

1. Jonny Evans

After successful loan spells at Royal Antwerp and Sunderland, alongside the likes of Darron Gibson, Danny Simpson and Frazier Campbell, Jonny Evans was tipped to go on to big things at Old Trafford.

However, it hasn’t materialised as it was expected to do and the Northern Ireland international could follow the likes of Gibson, Simpson and Campbell through to exit door at Manchester United. Although it could be too late.

The centre-half has never been a favourite at United and hasn’t lived up to his potential, the fact United have never really replaced the partnership of Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic leads to finger pointing.

Maybe Evans receives some unfair criticism, but some tentative performances last campaign under ruthless manager Louis van Gaal didn’t help his cause.

To compile his misery, Evans received a six-game suspension last season following a spitting altercation with Newcastle United’s Papiss Cisse.

2. Anders Lindegaard

To cut a long story short, Anders Lindegaard has never been given a proper chance at Manchester United; and to be honest he probably never will.

Even with David De Gea potentially leaving for Real Madrid, the Danish goalkeeper still won’t get his opportunity. United have signed a ready-made replacement for De Gea in the shape of Victor Valdes.

The reason Lindegaard should leave Old Trafford is simply to play games. For a 31-year old shot-stopper to have only made 95 appearances throughout his whole career, that is rather worrying.

3. Javier Hernandez

Chicharito must be wondering what he has to do to feature in Louis van Gaal’s plans.

The Mexican striker was born to score goals and often earned points on his own with his predatory instincts under Sir Alex Ferguson. Two excellent goals in a 2-1 win at Stoke City come to mind, the season United won the 2010/11 Premier League title.

However, despite United crying out for a goalscorer last season in order to win tight and scrappy games, van Gaal just doesn’t seem to be a fan of Hernandez.

He was even shipped out to Real Madrid, where he showed he can still do the business by scoring vital goals. The one that saw Real Madrid defeat their city rivals Atleti in the quarter finals of the Champions League springs to mind.

The 27-year old needs to leave because he is far too good to be on the fringes. United need to be careful though as their fierce rivals Liverpool are monitoring the centre forward’s situation.

4. Adnan Januzaj

The Belgium international was another tipped for big things at the Red Devils, but he seems to be another case of wasted potential.

Adnan Januzaj was one of the minimal bright sparks of David Moyes’ infamous tenure at Old Trafford, bursting on to the Premier League scene with two stunning goals in a 2-1 victory at Sunderland.

However, such a start seemed to pile pressure on the winger and it may have affected his development. Fans came to expect so much of Januzaj but were left disappointed, including his current boss Louis van Gaal.

I believe handing him the iconic number 11 jersey once wore by Ryan Giggs didn’t do him any favours either.

5. Rafael

Brazilian right-back Rafael Da Silva could follow his twin brother Fabio out of Manchester after falling down the pecking order.

A long term injury didn’t do him any favours, because once he returned he couldn’t break into the first team.

So much so that the Dutchman van Gaal opted to play a centre-back, either Chris Smalling, Phil Jones or Paddy McNair, at full-back rather than the fit again Rafael.
