Gunners beat Cherries 2-0 at Emirates Stadium

Arsenal climbed to the top of the Premier League for the time-being thanks to a 2-0 victory against AFC Bournemouth last night, with Mesut Ozil once again stealing the show.

The German international, who is certainly a contender for Player of the Year, assisted the opening goal for Gabriel Paulista, before putting the game to bed with a goal himself in the second-half after neat build-up play with Olivier Giroud.

The three points put Arsene Wenger‘s men top of the Premier League, above Leicester City who play Manchester City tonight in a massive clash at the King Power Stadium.

Here are SillySeason‘s Five Things Learnt from the 2-0 win against Bournemouth last night.

5) Bournemouth Can Survive

A lot has been said about Bournemouth so far this season, and when the injuries started kicking in, it looked like their campaign was already over.

Several key players suffered long-term injuries, but that hasn’t stopped Eddie Howe’s men from putting in impressive performances and getting some valuable points.

They performed well at the Emirates Stadium last night, but sadly for them fell a bit short to moments of class from Mesut Ozil.

If they continue to play like they have been doing however, they should survive in the Premier League.

4) Congratulations Petr Cech

170 Premier League clean-sheets. Record breaker.

Petr Cech must go down as one of the greatest, if not the greatest Premier League goalkeepers of all time.

Yes most of his clean-sheets were kept at Stamford Bridge during his Chelsea days, but it’s at Arsenal where he’s broken David James’ record

Last night was a fairly quiet night for him, but he has finally reached the milestone and is now the ‘keeper with the most Premier League clean-sheets of all time.

It will take some beating too.

3) Calum Chambers Looked Comfortable

Okay it may have only been Bournemouth at home, but for a makeshift centre-midfielder, we thought Calum Chambers did alright.

Injuries have mounted up at the Emirates Stadium, of course, and it forced Arsene Wenger into putting Chambers at holding-mid last night.

The young Englishman has trained at centre-mid in his career, but last night was his first official outing in that position and for the majority of the night, he looked very comfortable.

He will have bigger tests coming up that’s for sure, but it was a good start for the youngster.

2) What Else Can Be Said About Mesut Ozil

This is why Arsenal spent £42million on him.

It’s taken time, but Mesut Ozil has finally settled into life at Arsenal Football Club and my word is his repaying them.

You could say Arsene Wenger playing him on the wing for the majority of his Arsenal career was a bad move, but making him the central point of the attack has worked wonders.

Ozil is back in his comfortable number-10 position and he’s showing what he can do.

Another assist, which makes it 17 already for the season, and a goal for himself as well.

Another stunning display from a wonderful footballer.

1) It Has to be Arsenal’s Year

Arsenal won’t get a better chance at winning the Premier League title.

Chelsea are out of it, Manchester United are fading away and they’ve got a bit of breathing space over Manchester City.

Simply out, Arsenal have to capitalise and they have to win the Premier League this season.

If they don’t, then who knows when their next league triumph will come, but this is a massive chance for Arsene Wenger and his side.

They must take advantage of the situation.

So there are our Five Things learnt.

What about you?
