Hornets hold Blues to 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge

Guus Hiddink took charge of his first game as Chelsea interim-manager this afternoon, but his day was dampened by the Hornets who managed to take away a point from Stamford Bridge.

Hiddink watched on as Chelsea cruised past Sunderland last weekend, but in his first game back in the dug-out, his side were held to a 2-2 draw by Watford, who continue their remarkable Premier League story.

A Diego Costa brace wasn’t enough for the champions as that strike-force stole the headlines again with goals from Troy Deeney and Odion Ighalo.

SillySeason take a look at the 2-2 draw in detail and assess the Five Things learnt.

5) Guus Hiddink Has A BIG Job

Things looked good from the directors box as Chelsea smashed Sunderland 3-1 last weekend, but it was a different story from the touchline.

Guus Hiddink has taken over a damaged Chelsea on-and-off the pitch, so the Dutchman will need to work his magic to get things back on track at Stamford Bridge.

He won the FA Cup last time he was at the club, and he’s aiming for a top-four and cup success this time around again, but this is a completely different task.

Hiddink needs to get the morale back and then needs to start getting results.

Today wasn’t the greatest of starts, but credit to Watford.

4) Watford Are Surprising Us All

I don’t think anyone had Watford down for 7th come Christmas did they?!

What a season the Hornets are having, and it’s a real shame for them that Leicester City are doing so well, otherwise they’d be dominating the headlines each week.

They smashed Liverpool last weekend, and they’ve picked up a massive point at Stamford Bridge today.

A superb performance and yet another stunning result for the Hornets.

Just how far can they go?!

3) Poor Oscar

From hero to zero in seven days.

Oscar played out of his skin last week against Sunderland, and was rightfully voted Man of the Match, but it was a day to forget for him today.

With the game level at 2-2 and just minutes left, the Brazilian had a chance to win the game from the penalty spot, but he slipped over and skied the opportunity.

A day to forget for Oscar.

2) Two Goals and One Suspension for Diego Costa

Just your normal afternoon for Diego Costa.

Started the game superbly and deservedly got himself on the scoresheet twice, but he then ended the game on a sour note by getting booked needlessly, meaning he will miss the trip to Manchester United on Monday.

Guus Hiddink said he can get the best out of Costa, and after just one week he’s already scored half his tally this season, going into the game with just four goals.

Chelsea fans will want to see more of that side from the Spaniard, but they won’t want to keep seeing him pick up needless suspensions.

Blues will now travel to Old Trafford with either Loic Remy or Radamel Falcao as their lead-striker, both who have struggled for goals.

1) Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney

Troy Deeney got them promoted with stunning displays last season, and now Odion Ighalo is adding to that.

All the talk has been Jamie Vardy, but this guy must be mentioned in the same breathe as he’s doing unreal things for Watford.

Another goal for Ighalo this afternoon and also another goal for Deeney.

It’s strange seeing a Premier League team using a 4-4-2 formation, but for some reason it works so well for the Hornets.

So there are our Five Things from the 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge!

What did you make of the game?
