Five things we learned from the Premier League this weekend

SillySeason discuss the main talking points from this weekend’s matches. Another weekend of Premier League football is over with, and despite one game tomorrow night, SillySeason are now going to highlight five main talking points from game-week 5.

Following Saturday’s dramatic action, which saw Manchester City score a late winner and Chelsea fall to yet another defeat, eyes turned to the double-header today.

Sunderland took on Tottenham Hotspur, while Leicester City hosted Aston Villa.

Here are the five highlights from this weekend’s Premier League action.

5) Chelsea Football club crisis

Chelsea’s Misery Continues. Five games, four points and sitting just above the relegation zone. Doesn’t sound like a Jose Mourinho side does it? Well it is.

Chelsea have had a horror start to the new campaign, picking up just four points from games against Swansea City and West Bromwich Albion.

However, The Blues have lost to Manchester City, Crystal Palace and now Everton already this campaign. Read more about Five Things We Learned: Everton 3 v 1 Chelsea!

The results are concerning, the performances are concerning and the mood around the club must be concerning for fans as well.

They had a poor summer transfer window in reality, bringing in just one regular first-team player in Pedro, but that’s not the only current problem.

Mourinho‘s tactics have been found out, his backroom are clearly losing faith in him and the fans are getting more and more agitated each week.

The last time Mourinho started this badly under Roman Abramovich, he got the axe.

Will lightning strike twice?

4) Brendan Rodgers on Borrowed Time?

Times are tough for Liverpool and Brendan Rodgers.

After starting the campaign solidly with points on the board, they then lost to West Ham United at Anfield and backed it up with a poor display against Manchester United on Saturday. Read more about Manchester United 3-1 Liverpool – 5 Things We Learned

The Reds were not in the game and went 2-0 down before a wonder-goal from Christian Benteke gave them hope.

However, Anthony Martial ended the game with a debut-goal dumping further misery onto Rodgers and co.

The summer window was an interesting one for Liverpool. Several came in, including big money signings Benteke and Roberto Firmino, but overall it hasn’t helped things out at Anfield.

Fans are losing patience with Rodgers and have been for a while now.

How long does he have left?

3) Dick Advocaat Needs A Bit of Luck

Sometimes in football you just need a bit of luck. Dick Advocaat needs that right now.

Today’s game against Tottenham was probably one of Sunderland‘s better performances so far this season, but they still came away with nothing thanks to a later Ryan Mason goal.

Spurs weren’t great, but neither were Sunderland and overall it was a poor game, but The Black Cats didn’t deserve to lose and 0-0 would have been fair.

However, the loss leaves Advocaat‘s men rock bottom with just two points from five games.

Somehow Sunderland have survived late on in the past two seasons, but this time, it might be their time to drop to the Championship.

2) HurriKane Turns Into A Drizzle

Okay it’s only been five games and he’s scored a couple for England, but overall this season, Harry Kane has been invisible for Spurs.

After last season’s antics, which saw him score 31 goals in all competitions, all hope was rested on the youngster’s shoulders and he’s already suffering from it.

Labelled the next big thing and the new Alan Shearer, Kane has dropped in form so far since the end of last season and with five games and no goals, he’s already struggled at White Hart Lane.

He was fairly quiet throughout the game today, although he had one glorious chance that he put wide which last year would have hit the back of the net.

If Spurs have ANY hopes of finishing in the top-four, Kane needs to start scoring goals.

1) Claudio Ranieri and Leicester Are Perfect

2-0 down at home to their local-rivals, most people would panic but no not Claudio Ranieri and Leicester City.

The Foxes turned the game on it’s head and came away with a 3-2 win, continuing their unbeaten start to the campaign.

Ranieri‘s men are now second in the table, only behind Manchester City and have 11 points to their name from the opening five matches.

Leicester are looking good, playing good and as it stands, ‘The Tinkerman’ hasn’t tinkered with much.

It will be interesting to see how things go if they start losing a couple of games, but as it stands, they are the surprise package of the campaign.

So there you have it. Our five stand-out moments from the weekend.

What are yours?
