SillySeason look into five talking points from yesterday’s Premier League action

The Premier League was back this weekend following the international break, and it was back with plenty of talking points and highlights.

It was a weekend that saw Manchester United leave it late, Arsenal slump to a shock defeat and Liverpool thrash Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

However, what were the main talking points from Saturday in our eyes.

Well here is SillySeason‘s Five Things learnt from the Premier League action yesterday.

5) Romelu Lukaku and Ross Barkley Are on Fire

Everton have slowly worked their way up to seventh in the Premier League table and it’s largely down to these two.

Ross Barkley and Romelu Lukaku are enjoying their football recently and two goals a piece yesterday continued their fine form.

If Everton do want to try and cement a Europa League spot or maybe even push for that final Champions League place with Chelsea having a nightmare start, then they will need these two to continue their red-hot form.

4) Francis Coquelin Injury a MASSIVE Blow

Without trying to sound too dramatic, this could be a season change for Arsenal.

Francis Coquelin has been superb for them this calendar year and with the news that his knee injury could be a serious one, it leaves Arsene Wenger’s men very short in midfield.

The Frenchman was hurt early on against West Brom and was replaced by Mikel Arteta, who proceeded to have an absolute nightmare.

Early reports are claiming it could be months rather than weeks, and if that’s the case, Arsenal’s title challenge may well be over already.

3) Draw Not Good For Swansea or Bournemouth

It was a massive game for both clubs and it eventually ended in a stalemate.

Swansea City would have expected to win this game being the home side and also due to Bournemouth’s horrific injury list, but to be fair to the Cherries, they gave it a right go.

In fact, Eddie Howe’s men stormed into a 2-0 lead. However, they couldn’t see it out as Garry Monk’s men completed the comeback, leaving both sides with a point.

The draw leaves Bournemouth in the bottom-three, with Swansea just five points above them.

2) Jurgen Klopp Is Working

Who predicted Liverpool to win at the Etihad Stadium? I don’t think many did.

Not only did Liverpool win however, they smashed Manchester City and stormed to a 3-0 lead after just half-an-hour.

Philippe Coutinho was sensational again and Roberto Firmino put in his best display as a Reds player.

If this continues for Jurgen Klopp and Liverpool, maybe he could be the man to end that Premier League drought.

1) Jamie Vardy

How could we not mention him?!

It’s 10 goals in 10 consecutive games now for Jamie Vardy, equalling Ruud Van Nistelrooy’s record.

13 goals in total so far this season puts him top of the goal-scoring charts, and he doesn’t look like stopping anytime soon.

Up next for Leicester is a home tie against Manchester United.

Will Vardy break a United legend’s record against the very team? We’ll have to wait and see.

So there are the Five Things that stood out for us this weekend.

What did for you?
