SillySeason Discuss Major Talking Points from Today’s Matches

It was yet another epic Saturday in the Premier League.

It started off with Crystal Palace beating West Bromwich Albion at Selhurst Park, before there were wins for Leicester City, Stoke City and an emphatic victory for Manchester City, who knocked six past Newcastle United.

Bournemouth and Watford ended all square, as did Sunderland vs West Ham United.

In the evening game, Chelsea‘s crisis deepened as they lost 3-1 at home to Southampton at Stamford Bridge.

Here are the Five Things that stood out for us.

1. Chelsea hit a major crisis

Goals from Steven Davis, Sadio Mane and Graziano Pelle helped inflict a fourth league defeat on Chelsea and their increasingly under pressure manager Jose Mourinho.

Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat at home to Southampton means they are already 10 points behind leaders Man City.

2. Aguero hits form as he puts 5 past Newcastle

Sergio Aguero scored five goals in just 2o-minutes as Manchester City thrashed struggling Newcastle 6-1.

The striker has struggled for form so far this season but he definitely recaptured that with a red hot display in front of goal.

3. Newcastle in real trouble

Under-pressure Newcastle boss Steve McClaren is under real pressure as a 6-1 thrashing saw his side slip to the bottom of the Premier League.

To add to their problems they are already five points from safety after just eight games.

4. Sunderland’s defensive woes prevent them from winning

Sunderland‘s defensive frailties were on show again as they surrendered a 2-0 lead to draw 2-2 at home to West Ham.

With manager Dick Advocaat‘s future in doubt it is uncertain when a first win may be coming.

5. Leicester’s defeat against Arsenal was just a blip

Leicester returned into the top-four with an impressive 2-1 win at Norwich, showing that last week’s 5-2 defeat against Arsenal was only a small blip in their impressive start to the campaign.

Jamie Vardy scored another goal despite playing once again with a broken wrist.
