Hornets sting Jurgen Klopp with 3-0 win

Watford stunned Liverpool this afternoon at Vicarage Road thanks to goals from Nathan Ake and a brace from Odion Ighalo.

The Hornets have settled into Premier League life with ease and they were treated to yet another victory this afternoon, this time at the expense of Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool.

So after winning 3-0, it’s time for SillySeason to pick out their highlights from the match.

Here are Five Things learnt from Watford‘s 3-0 win.

5) Adam Bogdan Isn’t Competition

Moments into a rare start in the Liverpool first-team and you suffer from a howler. Not ideal.

Adam Bogdan is Liverpool’s number-two behind Simon Mignolet, but an injury kept the Belgian out of today’s game and just minutes into the match, Bogdan was picking the ball out of his net.

A corner was swung in and the former-Bolton Wanderers shot-stopper managed to drop the ball, not once, but twice, before Nathan Ake tapped home.

Competition is vital for goalkeepers but as it stands, Mignolet doesn’t have a viable competitor for that number-one spot.

Jurgen Klopp needs to bring in another ‘keeper.

4) Mamadou Sakho Nightmare

Horrible afternoon for Mamadou Sakho.

Odion Ighalo and Troy Deeney tortured the Frenchman all game and he was simply not at the races at all.

With Martin Skrtel going off early due to injury, Sakho couldn’t get in the game and was wobbly at the back throughout the 90-minutes.

We said Jurgen Klopp needs a new goalkeeper, maybe it’s time he got a new centre-back as well.

3) Odion Ighalo is a Talent

The headlines have been focusing on Jamie Vardy and Romelu Lukaku for most of the season, and rightfully so, but not far behind those two is this man.

Odion Ighalo has been superb for Watford this season and has been providing the goals throughout the campaign.

He netted his 11th and 12th of the season this afternoon, making him one of the Premier League’s top goalscorers, but it’s not just his scoring that’s an asset.

He’s a nuisance to defenders and a real handful when on the ball.

What a signing for Watford.

2) Christian Benteke Not in Klopp’s Plans?

Christian Benteke was on the bench this afternoon and wasn’t brought on until the 72nd minute, when Liverpool were 2-0 down.

Jurgen Klopp was forced into an early change when Martin Skrtel had to come off through injury, and the German turned to Divock Origi rather than Benteke.

Despite nothing changing and still being 2-0 down, it took until the 72nd minute for Klopp to introduce the Belgian, but by then, it was too late and he failed to make an impact.

With some reports suggesting Chelsea are interested in signing him, will Klopp take the money and bring in his own striker?

Benteke is clearly not fitting in at Liverpool.

1) Dreamland for Watford FC

3-0 win against Liverpool and seventh in the Premier League.

Watford were HEAVILY tipped to go back down to the Championship immediately, but boy they’ve proved people wrong.

17 games played, eight wins, four draws and seventh in the table sitting on 28 points.

Watford are just one point off the Champions League places.

What a season they are having so far, and what a Christmas they will be having.

So there are our Five Things learnt from Watford’s win against Liverpool.

What did you think of the game?
