Aston Villa helpless, Chelsea on the rise and Leicester City drop points

There were five games in the Premier League last night, and it’s now time for SillySeason to highlight their Five Things learnt from the action.

In a night where Leicester City drew to West Bromwich Albion and Chelsea continued their impressive run of form under Guus Hiddink, here are the Five Things that stood out for us.

5) Vital Point for Sunderland

Although they would have eyed a win at home against an out-of-form Crystal Palace, Sunderland picked up a vital point last night thanks to a late Fabio Borini goal.

Sam Allardyce labelled it as ‘goal of the season’ after the game, and it was some strike from the Italian, but it could also be a vital goal in terms of their Premier League status.

The point lifted them out of the drop zone and above Norwich City and Newcastle United, but with 10-games to go, it’s certainly not job done just yet.

They are still level on points with both Norwich and Newcastle, but if they can keep picking up points, they could survive.

4) AFC Bournemouth To Survive?

I think a lot of people may have had Bournemouth to go straight back down to the Championship before the start of the season.

I think a lot more people would have said Bournemouth to go down after they picked up numerous serious injuries to crucial players.

However, a 2-0 win against local-rivals Southampton last night has now put them eight points clear of the drop-zone.

If Eddie Howe can keep this team in the top-flight, it’s an incredible achievement and an achievement that no-one would have expected.

3) Aston Villa Doomed

Eight points off safety with just 10-games to go. It’s looking done and dusted for Aston Villa.

A 3-1 home loss to Everton last night and another poor performance puts the Villains in a very tricky situation.

The fans protested on the 74th minute and evacuated the stadium, but sadly for the rich, historic club, it looks like it’s Championship for them next season.

2) Chelsea’s Form Continues

What a job Guus Hiddink is doing.

Still to taste defeat in the Premier League under his tenure and they’ve incredibly risen from 16th to 8th in the table.

Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Norwich City last night has kept their slim dream of European football alive as they close in on the chasing pack.

Never say never in the Premier League, especially the way this league is going, but a top-five finish could just be on the cards after all.

Jose who?

1) Leicester City Miss Golden Chance

At home to West Bromwich Albion, Leicester City would have fancied their chances of going five points clear of second-place Tottenham Hotspur.

However, after being held at the King Power Stadium to a 2-2 draw, they missed that golden opportunity and could now drop down to second should Spurs beat West Ham United this evening.

Although Leicester are still in a good position to win the Premier League, they have now dropped to second-favourites to win it, behind Tottenham.

Claudio Ranieri insisted he was happy with the performance last night, but he must be annoyed at the missed opportunity.

So five games, Five Things learnt from last night.

What does tonight have in store?
