5 things we learnt from todays Premier League game

Chelsea taste defeat again, this time at the hands of Everton at Goodison Park. The Toffees ran out easy 3-1 winners as they blew Chelsea away thanks to a Steven Naismith hat-trick. Jose Mourinho is surely under pressure now and the odds on Jose Mourinho to be sacked will probably be slashed again.

SillySeason takes a look at 5 things we learnt from the Premier League match.

1. Chelsea need to drop the under-performers

They say the definition of insanity is repeating the same mistakes over and over while expecting a different result. However Jose Mourinho still keeps making them.

Branislav Ivanovic and Cesc Fabregas have been the weakest links in this Chelsea team for some time now, that much is evident. But yet they still keep making the starting XI.

If Chelsea are to get back on track, they need to recognise this weakness and come up with a quick solution.

Ivanovic and Fabregas need to be dropped and Chelsea need to try something different. Sometimes you have to hold your hands up, admit something is working and then be brave enough to change it.

2. It will take even more money to get Stones

John Stones put in a stand out performance at centre back for the Toffees despite the intense media attention and pressure he was under.

The Englishman was calm and collected in possession and made Diego Costa look average.

Should Chelsea come in with a fifth bid in January, Everton will be well within the rights to demand top dollar for their prized asset.

3. Jose Morinho’s job is on the line

Chelsea are now officially a club in crisis and thats when rash decisions are made. Jose Mourinho will surely be feeling the heat now and I’m sure Roman Abramovich will be assessing his options over the next week.

The Russian is not renowned for his patience and the Portegueses position is surely under threat, despite Mourinho recently stating “Let’s be objective. I don’t want to leave the club, in any circumstances,” he said. “And the club doesn’t want me to leave. I’m not going to walk away. The club is not going to sack me. Full stop.”

While Jose Mourinho is probably the best man to lift Chelsea from the brink, the club is officially in crisis and therefore a rash decision isn’t beyond them. The odds on Jose Mourinho to be sacked will probably be cut again!

4. Steven Naismith has laid claim to a starting XI spot

Steven Naismith has surely staked his claim for a position in Everton’s starting XI as he stole all the plaudits with a superb hat-trick after replacing the injured Muhamed Besic in the first half.

The midfielder was the subject of a deadline day bid from Norwich City and Roberto Martinez will be happy the move didn’t go through.

5. Chelsea’s title defence is now over

While Chelsea fans will keep the faith, the reality is that Chelsea are now out of the title race. They are already 8 points behind leaders Manchester City who have yet to face Crystal Palace.

Chelsea really have to get back to basics now, concentrate on themselves and priorities a top four finish which on current form, is under threat.
