Ex-Arsenal midfielder Andrey Arshavin has moved back to Russia on a free transfer after the Gunners released the 32-year-old after a mostly disappointing three and a half year stint at the club.
Arshavin first signed for Arsenal in January 2009 for an undisclosed fee believed to be around £15m. The early signs were good for the Russian who scored 6 goals in 12 appearances during the second half of the 2008/09 season, including an infamous 4 goal display against Liverpool, which ended 4-4.
However in recent years the midfielder found it harder and harder to get into the starting XI, playing only 80 minutes in the Premier League during the 2012/13 season.
He will officially join Zenit on the 1st July, returning to the club that made his name. During his 9-year spell at the club Arshavin enjoyed a lot of success, including winning the UEFA Cup in 2008 with a win over Rangers.
