Fulham have appointed Rene Menlensteen to work as head coach of Fulham alongside a pressured Martin Jol following a poor run of form from the London side. The team have built up a record of four straight loses as they drop into the bottom three, among complaints from fans about Jol’s current poor form. Menlensteen, who worked under Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United for 12 years, told the BBC that he was focused immediately on the task at hand:

“I have spent many hours talking with Martin Jol and we share a vision of how football should be played”

“It is our job to make sure we can bring this vision to life on the pitch for the fans.”

The 49 year-old, who worked as a youth team coach before being promoted to the first team in 2007, recently left his post at Russian club Anzhi Makhachkala after a mere 16 days in charge due to their attempts to trim wage bills at the club. However, Fulham chief executive Alistair Mackintosh praised Menlensteen’s abilities as he rejoiced in the club’s new addition:

“We are all delighted to welcome Rene to Fulham”

“There was always going to be a battle for Rene’s services and, with the assistnace of our chairman Shahid Khan, we have been able to bring one of the best coaches in the world to Fulham.”

Fulham fans will be hopeful that this introduction to the staff will help their team climb out of the relegation zone after a disappointing run of games, with a difficult home game against Swansea City to look forward to after the international break.
