Pep Guardiola has explained what Riyad Mahrez needs to do to land starting role at Manchester City.

The Algerian scored the only goal of the match coming off the bench in the match against Bournemouth.

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has said that Riyad Mahrez needs to be positive and look to seize his opportunities to get a place in the starting lineup in the future. The Algerian scored the winning goal for his side in the last match against Bournemouth which has put the Citizens at the top of the table in the Premier League. It also ended a three-month Premier League goal drought for the winger.

Speaking to the media after the match, the Manchester City gaffer said, “It’s so important for him. Firstly, for the team.”

He added, “He has to be ready and positive – ‘OK, my time is going to come, the time is going to come’ – because there are a lot of games. I don’t have any doubts about his quality and always his mentality is aggressive. But he has to understand where he is and where he is at a team who scored 100 points (last season) and in every single game fight and run and play. And the people in front are Leroy (Sane) – last season one of the most important players that we had – Bernardo (Silva), the best player in the league, and Raheem (Sterling).”
