Queens Park Rangers manager, Harry Redknapp, has revealed that he was close to signing Eden Hazard from Lille during his Tottenham Hotspur days.

The Belgium ace was making a name for himself in Ligue 1 and was wanted by several Premier League clubs, including Tottenham, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United, but the winger eventually chose to join Chelsea after announcing it on his official Twitter account.

Now preparing his QPR side to try and defend against Hazard, Redknapp has revealed that he was close to signing the winger back in his White Hart Lane days.

‘I tried to get Hazard at Tottenham. I spent four hours with Hazard in a hotel talking to him about coming to Tottenham and and he wouldn’t come,’ he said.

‘He went to Chelsea not long after. I think he was dead keen to come at that time.

‘Joe Cole said he thought he was the best player he ever played with.

‘We pushed on for him at the time. We just couldn’t get it over the line. It was at a Paris airport hotel.’
