Thiago Alcantara has revealed he had the option to join Manchester United after he left FC Barcelona, but opted for Bayern Munich instead.
The Spanish international was struggling for first-team football at the Nou Camp and when the opportunity to link-up with Pep Guardiola in Germany came, the midfielder jumped at the chance.
Munich forked out £15million to sign the 24-year-old back in 2013, but due to a knee ligament tear which ruled him out for a year, he has only made 34 appearances.
However, with several first-team injuries at Munich, Thiago has found himself back in the starting XI, but he has revealed how different his career could have been if he didn’t follow Guardiola.
In a recent interview, Thiago admitted that Manchester United wanted to sign him, but he eventually chose the Bundesliga over the Premier League.
He said: “Yes [there was a possibility of joining Manchester United], but the real possibility was Bayern.
“[Because of Guardiola?] Yes, probably, but I can’t change the past and I prefer to focus on now. You learn something new every day with Pep, a magnificent coach who transmits real passion.”
Bayern Munich will face FC Barcelona in the Champions League Semi-Final tonight in Spain looking to take a respectable result back to Germany for the second-leg.
