Arsenal midfielder Francis Coquelin is aiming to be the club’s new Patrick Vieira.

Despite starting the 2014/2015 campaign out on loan at Charlton Athletic, Coquelin was recalled by Arsene Wenger due to injuries sustained to Mikel Arteta and Mathieu Flamini.

Since coming back to Arsenal and being in the first-team, the Frenchman has drastically improved and is now a crucial part of The Gunners’ first-team, and in a recent interview, he admitted that he’s aiming to be the new Vieira.

“I’m not going to say to you I am [can be a player similar to Vieira], obviously I want to be but I think it’s down to the performance I put in every week so I’m just trying to give me best every game so hopefully I can do that in the long term.

“Sometimes you profit from injuries and that was what happened with me.

Many people have suggested Arsenal have failed to replace Vieira ever since he left for Italy, but now it seems that they may have found their answer.
