I’m at Liverpool to stay!

Pepe Reina has said that he is happy to stay at Anfield next season, even if it means that he has to be understudy to Simon Mignolet.

Reina spent last season away on loan at Napoli, and is currently involved in Liverpool’s pre-season tour. While most expected the goalkeeper to move on from Anfield, Napoli have failed to make the move permanent, and a move to Barcelona has failed to materialise.

Reina has now claimed that he has no problems with staying in England.

He told Cadena Ser: “I have a contract to be respect with Liverpool. I’m training well and I am perfectly fine with my teammates.

“I am here to stay. I have not talked to Brendan Rodgers, I’ve been here for only four days and I am just thinking of training to my best and getting back into shape.

“I want to be at the top and to play as many games as possible. At the moment all the big Spanish teams are covered in my role, so I see it as very difficult to return to Spain.

“It’s normal though that over the years you want to return to where you came from, we’ll see.

“When Rafa Benitez signed me in 2005, I accepted and said that I would be back a little later in Spain. He replied: ‘We’ll see’.

“It’s amazing that 10 years later I am still away from Spain and that it was he who brought me to Napoli last year.”
