Rodriguez is currently on a two year loan deal at Bayern

James Rodriguez joined Bayern Munich from Real Madrid on a two year loan deal last summer after he handed a loan transfer request. He fell behind the pecking order under Zinedine Zidane amid fierce competition for places and left the club in order for more playing time. The German giants have the option to make the deal permanent.

Despite a slow start in Germany, the 26 year old rediscovered his form and helped the club to win the Bundesliga title and a place in the semi-final of Champions League. This led to reports that Bayern would be willing to make the deal permanent.

Bayern Munich faced Real Madrid in the first leg of semi-final in the Champions league on Wednesday and Rodriguez was in the starting line to face his parent club. He was impressive in the game but the Spanish giants defeated them 2-1.

Amid talk of those in Madrid welcoming him back in 2019, the South American told beIN Sports: “Return to Madrid? I don’t know, nobody knows what will happen in the future but currently I am with Bayern.

“I’m in a good phase of form at the minute and I am good here, I am happy.”

The midfielder was also upset that after going 1-0 up they let Real to come back into the game. He said of a disappointing evening for the Bavarians which saw Marcelo and Marco Asensio cancel out Joshua Kimmich’s opener: “In this game Madrid had to clear opportunities and they scored from both while we had four or five and have not been able to score.

“This is a freak game, we have played very well yet have been on the wrong side of the result.

“In Madrid it will be very difficult, but we must be very attentive and try to turn every opportunity into a goal.”
