Chelsea defender John Terry has admitted he nearly joined Manchester City in 2009.
The Blues skipper is already deemed a club legend for his services to the club throughout his career, but things could have been a lot different had he completed a move away six years ago.
Terry was wanted by newly-rich Manchester City, who were prepared to pay around £29million to lure him from Stamford Bridge to the Etihad Stadium.
Despite the interest shown by City, he was never going to leave Chelsea, but he could have left a lot earlier as the club wanted to sell him back in 2000.
At the time, Terry had only made 15 appearances for the first-team and he was strongly linked with a move to Huddersfield Town after having a loan spell with Nottingham Forest.
Terry was all-but confirmed as a Huddersfield player, but the club pulled the plug on the deal at the last minute, keeping the centre-back at Chelsea.
He told Mail Online: “Chelsea wanted to sell me then. They had agreed a deal with Huddersfield. After my loan at Forest, I was supposed to go to Huddersfield.
“But I did well in those games, I started five and came on in the other. Chelsea wanted more money then decided they didn’t want to sell as I’d done well. I came back and got on the bench for the FA Cup final.”
