Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho believes that Anzhi midfielder Willian would prefer a move to Chelsea rather than their London rivals Tottenham Hotspur despite the 25-year-old having a medical at Spurs.

The deal was in place for Willian to join Andre Villas-Boas’ side after the Brazilian passed his medical and the two teams had agreed on a fee worth around £30million.

However, in a late attempt to hijack the deal, Chelsea offered the Russian club £5million more than what Tottenham were offering and then they opened up talks with the player and the club as well.

It is now expected that Willian will hold talks with Chelsea over a potential move to Stamford Bridge and Mourinho believes that is what the player wants.

When asked about signing the midfielder, Mourinho nodded his head and then added: “I know what the player wants, so in this moment we cannot hide. That is a possibility.”

It is believed that Willian would prefer to move to Stamford Bridge so that he could play in the Champions League and also challenge for the title with Mourinho, who is apparently still unhappy with the depth of his squad.

“I couldn’t say much in previous news conferences,” Mourinho said.

“I have to answer your questions and try to be honest, but at the same time try to hide a few things.

“I’m happy with my squad, but every one of us managers, we say we are happy, but we are always unhappy.

“We always want something of more quality and we never close the door to the possibility of adding more quality.”
