Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has pleaded with the club’s board to offer Branislav Ivanovic more than just a one-year extension.

Due to the Serbian being over 30, the club will only offer the defender a 12-month contract, but Mourinho believes the 31-year-old is still crucial to his long-term plans and wants the board to offer at least a two-year deal.

The offer on the table for Ivanovic is a one-year deal worth £90k-a-week, but Mourinho feels that due to his relevance in the first-team set-up, a longer deal should be offered or at least a 12-month deal with the option to extend it for another year.

Ivanovic has been superb for The Blues this season and has recently been adding goals to his game, which has lead to Mourinho hailing him as one of the club’s best ever signing.

The West London outfit spent £9million on bringing the Serb to Stamford Bridge from Lokomotiv Moscow back in January 2008.
