Chelsea manager, Jose Mourinho, has urged striker, Diego Costa, to stop picking up ‘stupid’ yellow cards.

The Spaniard is known to have a temper on the football field, and despite picking up a few yellow cards already this season, Mourinho is keen for his star to stop picking up the stupid cautions.

Mourinho is happy for his player to have a hint of aggression on the field, but he is not happy seeing the striker pick up unnecessary cards.

He said: “I just want him to get proper yellow cards. As the consequence of a football action. I don’t want stupid yellows.

“When he gets one, he gets one. I have Dider Drogba and Loic Remy to come in. No problem.

“Diego is behaving very well, I have no issues with him. He improved a lot since he arrived. He’s a competitive guy. Right now, referees understand exactly that. He’s getting what he deserves.

“I say to all of my players, be careful. I don’t want yellows, but if they come from a normal action, like making an ‘intelligent foul’ to stop a counter-attack, that’s fine.”
