Jurgen Klopp issues Daniel Sturridge update
Manager will only believe striker wants out if he tells him himself
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has said he will only believe the reports about Daniel Sturridge wanting to quit the club if it comes from the strikers mouth himself.
Speculation has been high the past week regarding the striker’s future, with some reports claiming he wants to quit Anfield after growing fed up of Klopp‘s constant criticism.
Sturridge has once again had an injury-plagued season, and unlike previous managers, Klopp has called him up on his fitness levels and has questioned him publicly.
This hasn’t gone down well with Sturridge, according to reports, and it was revealed earlier in the week that the striker was considering a fresh start in his career, and that would mean leaving Liverpool.
However, when asked about Sturridge’s future, Klopp dismissed the speculation and has insisted he will only believe it if the striker tells him himself.
Klopp Offers Sturridge Update
“I didn’t ask him if he wanted to leave. Why should I? It is not a situation to ask him that,” said Klopp.
“He has been in training for two days. I don’t go over and ask, ‘Daniel, I hear you want to leave, is there truth in it?’ If Daniel will come and ask me then I will talk about it.
“After a long, long break, from my understanding, it is not possible that anyone can think about this because nothing has been said.
“The only problem is I have only had him 10 or 12 times on the training pitch – that is the truth. So now he is back we hope he can stay in team training and everything will be good.
“If everything is normal, from now on he is in the race. I have no feeling that Daniel is thinking like this so stop thinking about it.”
