Jurgen Klopp has revealed the reason why Daniel Sturridge didn’t take a penalty in the shootout against Man City.
The Reds drew 1-1 with Man City in regular time in the Capital One cup final and after 30 minutes of extra-time, with the scores still level, the two sides faced each other in a penalty shootout.
City won the shootout 3-1 but quite a few people were left wondering why the Reds’ main striker in the game, Daniel Sturridge, didn’t step up and take a spot kick. His manager has now given the reason why.
Klopp said: “There was no chance [for Sturridge to take a penalty], he had cramps.
“Everyone who was available took one.”
Klopp also revealed that if Liverpool had needed to take a fifth penalty in the shootout, then it would have been James Milner who would have stepped up to take it.
Reds’ legend Jamie Carragher wasn’t too impressed with Sturridge missing out despite his cramps, saying: “He had cramp towards the end, but unless he’s got an injury, I don’t know why he’s not taking a penalty.”
