Midfielder wants to be Atletico Madrid’s Steven Gerrard

Chelsea have been dealt a massive transfer blow as their number-one target has revealed his desire to stay put at his current club in order to emulate Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard.

Koke from Atletico Madrid has been on The Blues‘ radar for the past two seasons, and it was widely reported that the Premier League champions would make another attempt at signing him this Summer, but his latest comments will all-but end any possible interest.

Jose Mourinho is a huge admirer of Koke and wanted to add him into the squad to have alongside Nemanja Matic, but Koke has a desire of becoming a one-man club and a club legend in Spain.

Koke Rules Out Move

The 23-year-old has recently given an interview in Spain to discuss his future, and he has revealed that his intentions are to remain in La Liga and stay with Atletico.

“I have a contract with Atletico, I want to accomplish things and I am happy here,” Koke told Spanish paper AS.

“Of course I’d like to be Atleti’s Gerrard.”

Gerrard stayed at Liverpool for his whole career, snubbing moves to Chelsea, Real Madrid and Inter Milan along the way, but the captain is finally set for his Anfield exit as he moves to the MLS this Summer.
