Kylian Mbappe Issues Heartbreaking Apology For Missing Penalty

Kylian Mbappe just underwent one of the worst moments in his playing career – missing the final penalty in an elimination game.

France made an early exit from the 2020 Euros after losing 5-4 on penalties against Switzerland in the first knockout round.

Mbappe was overall poor as compared to his standards. He missed some clear scoring chances and looked off the pace. And his night turned into a nightmare when he struck Yan Sommer’s hands instead of the back of the net in the final shot of the game.

He wrote on Twitter, “Very difficult to turn the page. The sadness is immense after this elimination, we couldn’t achieve our goal. I’m sorry for the penalty.

“I wanted to help the team but I failed. It will be difficult to sleep but unfortunately this is what happens in this sport I love so much. I know you fans are disappointed, but I would like to thank you for your support and for always believing in us. The most important thing will be to pick ourselves up and come back even stronger for the challenges that lie ahead. Congratulations and good luck to Switzerland.”

France captain Hugo Lloris insisted that no one could be blamed for France’s defeat. He said, “In football, we win together and we lose together. We’re all responsible for the elimination. It’s painful and there is no one to point the finger at.

“We all fought together against the opponent and there is no excuse to seek. And we have to highlight the Swiss team, they were great.”
