Here are SillySeason’s ten best goals of the European Championship tournament!

The Euros is always a huge event that draws in millions of viewers every time the tournament takes place.

Over the years, we have seen some memorable moments, victories and – the focus of this article – some fantastic goals!

We’ve seen stunning strikes from legends like Marco Van Basten and fantastic finishes from current players too like Zlatan Ibrahimovic and there is bound to be some more great goals in this summers tournament.

Several star names will be travelling to France for the Euros this summer who could all deliver some world-class goals. Antoine Griezmann will be spearheading France’s attack, while Poland will be relying on the clinical Robert Lewandowski to produce the goods.

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale are two more players who will be carrying the hopes of their respective countries on their shoulders and Ibrahimovic – who has bagged a few brilliant goals in his time – will be there too and could potentially add another cracking goal to his list…we will have to wait and see!

In this article, we’ll be taking a look at what are – in our opinion – the ten best goals ever scored in the European Championship tournament and who scored them! Enjoy!

10. Mario Balotelli

Who can forget this goal and celebration! Although best remembered for the iconic shirtless celebration afterwards, the goal was a real missile from the Italian striker and it flew into the back of the next at speed. A fantastic finish and an even better celebration.

9. Davor Suker

The reigning champions Denmark were on the receiving end of this sensational strike from Suker. Despite Peter Schmeichel being in between the sticks, he was beaten by this amazing lobbed goal from Suker, as the Croatians stormed to a 3-0 win.

8. Zinedine Zidane

The French maestro bagged a beautiful free-kick against Spain back in 2000, which flew past the keeper. It was a superb goal and arguably one of his best strikes. It certainly won’t be forgotten for a long time! Unfortunately, there is no video of this goal that we can find, so here’s a picture of Zizou in French colours instead!

7. Tomas Brolin

One of the best remembered Swedish goals and also one of the most remembered England goals for all the wrong reasons, Tomas Brolin scored this sublime goal back in the Euro 92 tournament. He took a nice touch and then placed it into the back of the net to send Sweden through to the Semis and send England home.

6. Paul Gascoigne

Such an amazing goal from arguably one of the greatest players to ever put on an England shirt. Gazza knocked it over a defender and then smashed the volley home against Scotland to send the crowd wild back in Euro 96. Again, this goal will also be remembered for the celebration afterwards!

5. Jordi Alba

Jordi Alba took to the attack for this goal which helped Spain on their way to a comfortable 4-0 win over Italy in the Euro final back in 2012. Bursting forward with pace, the left-back made the run, was played through and then coolly slotted the ball past the keeper.

4. Ronnie Whelan

An absolutely tremendous strike from the Irishman back in the Euro 1988 tournament against the USSR, there aren’t many words to describe it – it truly was a superb goal and one of the best Ireland have ever scored at an international competition.

3. Karel Poborsky

Such a cool finish from the Czech Republic man, it takes skill to pull off a lob like this and have it pay off, especially in a big international competition like the Euros. Poborsky clearly has that skill, as he neatly sent it over the keepers head and into the goal.

2. Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Who else but Ibrahimovic to score such a good goal? How he pulled it off, we don’t know but again this goal took skill to pull off, especially with the ball bouncing around the box and no time to control it. However, the Sweden international somehow managed to pluck the ball out of the air and place it in the back of the net. Hats off to you Zlatan.

1. Marco Van Basten

Arguably one of the best players in Euros history and our pick for best goal of the Euros ever so far, it’s amazing how he managed to pull this off. The ball fell at an angle that seemed extremely hard to score from and yet the Holland international managed to volley it past the outstretched arms of the keeper. A sensational goal and an important one too, as it came in the 1988 final when the Netherlands beat the Soviet Union to claim the trophy.
