Liverpool captain broke sacking news
Jordan Henderson had to tell his team-mates about Brendan Rodgers
Liverpool skipper Jordan Henderson had to inform his team-mates about Brendan Rodgers’ dismissal, according to reports.
The Northern Irishman was sacked from his role at Anfield following a 1-1 draw against Everton in the Merseyside Derby on Sunday, with Jurgen Klopp set to take over.
Rodgers was sacked hours after the game, and according to reports, it was Henderson who had to tell the players about the news.
Officials from FSG phoned Rodgers to tell him the news, and then got in touch with the midfielder so that he could then tell the rest of the playing staff.
Source Reveals All
A source said: ‘It was always thought that the owners would wait until Christmas and if they were not in the top six then they would have a decision to make.
“The speculation would not go away but the timing – after a win and a draw – was interesting.
“Jordan was asked to deliver the news.
“There is sadness at the way it worked out with Brendan but an acceptance that it’s football and these things happen. There is a belief that the new man can come in and provide an immediate impact.”
