Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers is weighing up a potential bid for Arsenal centre-back Thomas Vermaelen.

The Belgium international is keen to leave the Emirates Stadium this Summer after falling down the pecking order last season, behind Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker.

The centre-back has attracted interest from Manchester United and FC Barcelona already this Summer, but Liverpool are now the latest club to be reportedly interested in the 28-year-old.

Despite already spending £20million on Dejan Lovren from Southampton, Rodgers is keen on adding Vermaelen to the squad as well as he prepares for Champions League football next season, and they are monitoring the Belgium’s situation.

Vermaelen has recently admitted that times are tough at Arsenal due to the lack of game-time, and his comments have sparked interest from the English duo and the Spanish giants.

The Gunners captain currently earns around £70k-a-week, and would want to be offered at least that much from a potential new club.
