Walter Sabatini, sporting director at the Italian giants, is of the view that Pjanic is indispensable to the side that sits second in Seria A and also admitted mistakes were made during January’s transfer window.

“Yesterday (Pjanic) wasn’t decisive, but we rely too much on him to solve our problems,” said Sabatini after their draw with Feyenoord in the Champions League.

“In terms of effort he was commendable. We have faith in him and we know he will find his game again.”

Signings Seydou Douimbia and Victor Ibarbo (on loan from Caligari) have failed to impress thus far to and will need to improve take the apparent weight off Pjanic’s shoulders.

“The players must bring something more to the pitch, though I’m not sure what exactly.

“I see them training in the pitch and I know we’ll find ourselves again.”

The midfielder has a £37million price tag and the Reds have been interested. However, the 24 year-old recently denied reports he has met with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers to discuss a possible transfer.
