Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Tottenham Hotspur defender, Jan Vertonghen, and will try to push through a deal in January.

Despite spending £20million on Dejan Lovren from Southampton over the Summer, The Reds are still leaking goals at the back and Brendan Rodgers is seemingly tired of seeing his team concede sloppy goals with Vertonghen seen as the perfect signing.

Rodgers has mixed his back-line up throughout the season, but it’s believed he sees Vertonghen as a perfect partner for Lovren, and will make a formal move in the New Year.

The Belgium defender is set to leave White Hart Lane after snubbing a contract extension at the new club, and since then, he has been dropped by Mauricio Pochettino, leaving his future in doubt.

However, according to reports, Liverpool have made the first move by holding initial talks with the defender’s agent.
