Reds prepared to send Rickie Lambert the other way

Liverpool are plotting a Summer move for Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke, and are prepared to use Rickie Lambert as part of the deal.

The Reds signed the striker from Southampton over the Summer for £4million, but he has struggled to impress during his time at Anfield, and Brendan Rodgers is ready to sell up.

Lambert was linked with a January loan-move away from the club, but he snubbed interest and remained in Merseyside as he wanted to fight for his first-team place.

However, after a full season, Rodgers is still unimpressed with the 33-year-old and could use him as part of a deal for Benteke.

Benteke for Lambert

Benteke has re-found his old form since Tim Sherwood took over from Paul Lambert, and has attracted interest from Liverpool, with £30m being asked by The Villains.

Sherwood confirmed earlier this season that he wouldn’t stand in Benteke’s way if he wanted to leave, but the club would still want to make a healthy profit from him.

Villa tried to sign Lambert in January, but failed in their loan deal, but with Liverpool prepared to use the England international as part of the deal, the two parties could come to terms on a deal.
