Liverpool Football Club have had to make a formal statement apologising for what was posted on their Twitter account last night.

The social media site is used so that people can follow celebrities and football clubs so that they can build up a lucrative relationship with fans and whoever was controlling the Liverpool Twitter account, tweeted out saying that they were putting songs together for the playlist for Sunday’s game with Manchester United.

After that tweet, a supporter suggested that the club play ‘Come fly with me’ and ‘Always look on the bright side of life’, which was an intention of clearly mocking United because of the Munich air disaster which killed 23 people, including eight United players, back in 1958.

Responding to the fan, the official Liverpool account tweeted back saying: ‘Have you been looking at the dressing room Ipod at all?’

The tweets have now been deleted and the club have made this formal apology.

‘Liverpool Football Club responded quickly to correct the error of judgement that was made last night on it’s official Twitter account in responding to a distasteful and inappropriate tweet. The Club took decisive action and the comment was deleted swiftly. We apologise, unreservedly, for any offence that was caused by this mistake.’
