Liverpool are reportedly on the verge of signing Real Madrid midfielder Asier Illaramendi.
The midfielder has failed to impress at the Bernabeu and has been unable to cement a first-team place under both Carlo Ancelotti and now Rafael Benitez.
Illaramendi is behind the likes of Toni Kroos, Luka Modric and was also behind Sami Khedira before he moved on a free to Serie A side Juventus.
The youngster is also fighting the likes of Isco and James Rodriguez for advanced roles in the club, but after failing to get regular first-team football, he’s now ready to leave the club.
Liverpool have been long-term admirers of the Spanish midfielder and see him as the ideal replacement for Steven Gerrard.
According to reports, The Reds could be set to land the Madrid play in a deal worth around £16million.
The 25-year-old could arrive at Anfield as Lucas Leiva leaves, as he is close to a move to Italy.
