Liverpool manager, Brendan Rodgers, should have replaced Luis Suarez with Alexis Sanchez, according to Sky Sports pundit, Gary Neville.

The Reds lost their star-man over the Summer as FC Barcelona forked out £75million for the Uruguayan, and despite their being a chance to do a cash+player deal involving Alexis, Rodgers turned it down and insisted that he’d sign his own players.

Rodgers then went on to sign; Dejan Lovren, Emre Can, Lazar Markovic, Rickie Lambert, Mario Balotelli, Alberto Moreno and Javier Manquillo.

However, none of his signings have stood up to the plate, whilst Alexis is proving a brilliant signing for Arsene Wenger’s men, and Neville believes Rodgers missed a trick by not signing the Chilean.

He told Sky Sports: “[Sanchez] would have been an ideal replacement for Luis Suarez. Goals, tenacity, pressing from the front, loses the ball – it goes past him he runs back

“Everything Liverpool would have wanted to replace Suarez, obviously you could argue he wouldn’t score the goals Suarez would score, but I think he would have been the perfect replacement for Suarez.

“It’s a real shame for Liverpool they didn’t get him, but a massive plus for Arsenal.”
