Liverpool superstar Sadio Mane shines for Senegal in a draw against Japan.

Keisuke Honda’s late goal rescues point for Japan.

Senegal thought they had one foot in the last 16 of the World Cup before Keisuke Honda’s late strike ensured a share of the spoils.

Both Senegal and Japan have missed the chance to take a giant step towards the World Cup knockout stages after playing out a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Ekaterinburg Arena.

But Japan and Senegal remain joint-top of World Cup Group H after draw ahead of Poland’s clash with Columbia.

Senegal took an early lead when Eiji Kawashima turned Youssouf Sabaly’s shot touched Sadio Mane for a goal just after 11 minutes.

Takashi Inui levelled things up in the 34th minute and the Asian dominated for nice period after half time.

But suddenly Moussa Wague put the ball into the net from a tight angle from Sabaly’s low cross to give Senegal the lead.

Sadio Mane and his team mates thought they had one foot in the last 16 of the World Cup before Keisuke Honda’s late strike ensured a share of the spoils.

Now, both team will have to wait until last group games to set their fortunes for further progress in the tournament.
