Reports claimed £21m deal was done

Liverpool are hoping to hijack Manchester United’s move for Benfica star Nicolas Gaitan.

The 27-year-old has been attracting interest from the Premier League in recent months, with United, Chelsea and now reportedly Liverpool all keen on signing him.

The winger was a price-tag of £21million, which was reportedly met by United a few days ago, which dealt a transfer blow to Jose Mourinho‘s side, who were also keen on the signature.

Liverpool Ready to Hijack

However, according to fresh reports emerging this morning, Liverpool are hoping that they could possibly hijack the transfer and get Gaitan to switch to Anfield instead of Old Trafford.

Gaitan was originally brought by Benfica to replace Angel Di Maria, who had left the club and joined Real Madrid, but now the Argentinian pair could become team-mates at Old Trafford if Louis Van Gaal can get the deal over the line.

United have already signed Memphis Depay in that position, but Van Gaal is ready to add depth to his squad in order to mount a serious title challenge next season.
