French media outlet claim Liverpool wanted to bring in Mourinho instead of Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool were trying to replace Brendan Rodgers with Jose Mourinho, according to French outlet Le 10 Sport.

The Reds sacked Rodgers hours after their 1-1 draw against Everton, but the decision to part ways with him was made a few weeks beforehand, and they were lining up an ambitious move for Mourinho.

However, according to Le Sport, Liverpool needed the Chelsea boss to resign from his position at Stamford Bridge, something he wasn’t prepared to do.

Klopp Appointed

After being snubbed by the Special One, Liverpool officials approached unemployed Jurgen Klopp and he was soon the new manager at Anfield.

Despite the poor start to the campaign for Chelsea, Mourinho was adamant he wouldn’t walk away, and that is why he wouldn’t resign from the club.

However, it’s believed the Portuguese would like to stay in the Premier League even if Chelsea sack him.
