Defender played 45 minutes vs Wigan in friendly

Luke Shaw has hailed his return to the Manchester United team as ‘indescribable’, after he played 45 minutes in United’s 2-0 friendly win over Wigan Athletic.

Shaw has been sidelined for 10 months after suffering a horrific double leg break in September, playing against PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League.

United took on Wigan in their first pre-season friendly this afternoon, and Shaw was named in the starting XI for Jose Mourinho’s maiden game in charge of the Red Devils.

He played the first 45 minutes of the 2-0 victory, which was secured thanks to strikes from Will Keane and Andreas Pereira.

Shaw tweeted: “Can’t describe how I felt today being back out on the pitch again.

“But thanks you to all the fans for the support I received today.”

Mourinho said he was pleased with his players after the match, and thought they were starting to buy into his way of thinking.

“The result obviously is not the most important thing but is also important,” Mourinho told MUTV. “I’m happy with things that we tried in training.
