Malky Mackay is the odds on favourite to be appointed as the new manager of Crystal Palace, according to Sky Sports.
The Scot is in line to replace former Palace boss Tony Pulis, who resigned from his post at Selhurst Park last night, after 10 months in charge of the club, a spell in which he guided the Eagles to an 11th place finish in the Premier League.
Pulis cited a break down in communication with co-owner Steve Parish as the reason he left the South London club, leaving Mackay in the frame for a swift return to management.
Mackay has been out of a job since being sacked by Cardiff City in December, having took the Welsh club up to the Premier League as League Champions of the Championship.
He stated to Sky Sports that he is looking at getting back into management, with the right club though:
“At the moment I’m just waiting,” he said. “I had a couple of opportunities in the summer that I didn’t feel I was ready for.
“So it’s really just a question of wait and see – but I really want to get back into it and manage again.
“I really enjoyed the challenge of coaching against some of the top coaches in the world and pitting your wits against them.
“Everyone would love to manage in the Premier League – but there are only so many clubs – I certainly enjoyed it last year and I would love to have the chance to manage there again.”
The Pulis departure came just 48 hours before the start of the new Premier League season, with Keith Millen set to take caretaker charge of Palace as they visit Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday.
