According to reports from the Mirror, Manchester City are looking to sign Leicester City left-back Ben Chilwell to bolster their options at left-back. City’s first-choice left-back Benjamin Mendy has been prone to injuries ever since he joined the club from Monaco for £52 million last summer. Mendy sustained a left knee injury after the Manchester Derby last month. He underwent surgery on his knee but there is no telling when he will return. However, this injury is not as severe as his right knee injury that sidelined him for most of the last season.
With Mendy out, City only have Oleksandr Zinchenko at left-back. They are now looking for the 21-year old Ben Chilwell who recently signed a new 6-year contract with Leicester City. Chilwell has played every second of Leicester City’s Premier League campaign and has done well for the club so far. His performances led to his first England call-up and have made him one of the most promising left-backs in the Premier League.
City are willing to pay £50 million for Chilwell. While the addition of Chilwell would be an asset for City, it is surprising City have shown interest in a player who lately signed a new contract with his current club.
