Manchester United were interested in Karim Benzema and Raphael Varane as well as Gareth Bale according to Florentino Perez.
Louis Van Gaal’s United had been hotly linked with a big-money move for former Tottenham Hotspur winger, Bale this summer. But Perez admitted it wasn’t the only Real player the English giants were after.
Van Gaal has had a busy summer identifying targets that would make United serious contenders for the Premier League title, having failed to do so in the past two seasons.
“No. It is not true [Bale bid]. We just know that Manchester United expressed their interest in Bale, Benzema and Varane.” Perez told a Spanish radio station.
Perez insists no formal bid was made by the Red Devils for Bale, while Van Gaal had expressed a genuine interest in Varane and Benzema.
Despite the lure of a big club like United, the Real Madrid president insists he was never worried that the club would lose any of their key assets.
Perez added: “Benzema and Bale know they are in the best club in the world. Where will they be better anywhere else other than here?”
