Louis van Gaal refused to meet £60million asking price

Manchester United were plotting a shock move for Borussia Dortmund star Marco Reus during yesterday’s transfer deadline day, but were put off by the German side’s £60million asking-price.

The Red Devils were in talks with Dortmund throughout the day due to the sale of Adnan Januzaj on a season-long loan, and according to reports, United officials were trying to secure a deal for Reus to come the other way.

However, the Bundesliga side stuck firm to their valuations and United refused to budge, so instead decided to sign Anthony Martial from AS Monaco for £36m.

Reus Interest

According to reports, United were only willing to go as high as £50m for Reus, meaning they were only £10m off the asking-price, but with both teams playing hard-ball, the deal broke down and the midfielder has once again remained in Germany with Dortmund.

The 26-year-old was close to joining Arsenal in last year’s summer transfer window, but an injury prevented the move and they signed Alexis Sanchez instead.

Liverpool and Chelsea have both been linked with signing the midfielder in previous months.
