Red Devils could launch £14.7million bid for Real Madrid defender

Manchester United are weighing up a potential bid for Real Madrid centre-back Pepe, according to reports in Spain.

The Portuguese defender could be on the brink of an exit from the Bernabeu in order to make way for Raphael Varane in the first-team, and United are continuing to monitor his situation.

Louis van Gaal was in the market for a new centre-back over the summer, but after falling short in their pursuit of Pepe‘s team-mate Sergio Ramos, they were left empty handed.

Van Gaal Eyes Pepe

However, Van Gaal is ready to add defensive cover in January and this time he is eyeing up Pepe, who could be ready to leave the Bernabeu after dropping down the pecking order under new boss Rafael Benitez.

The 32-year-old has only started three games so far this season and could be ready to leave the club, with United eyeing a possible deal worth around £14.7million.

According to reports in Spain, Madrid could be willing to sell if the price is right.
