Defender leaves Anfield

Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel looks set to be leaving the club as he’s agreed a 3 year contract with Italian outfit Roma.

Reports this week were claiming that Fenerbache would be the destination for Skrtel, but Emanuele Giulianelli, a journalist who writes for Italy’s Gazzetta dello Sport, among others, broke the news of the Roma move on Twitter this morning.

If this is true, it’s good news for Liverpool, who are looking to move Skrtel on to make room on the roster, as well as good news for the player. The 31-year-old Skrtel will once again have the opportunity to play Champion’s League football, since the Italian club qualified for the competition last season.

Fenerbache were in for Skrtel with an offer of around £5.5million, so you’d expect the fee paid by Roma for his services will be a little more to allow them to pip the Turkish side to the move.
