Manchester United offer midfielder one-year extension

Michael Carrick has been offered a new one-year deal by Manchester United, according to reports.

The 34-year-old has just a few months remaining on his contract at Old Trafford, and according to some outlets, he’s ready to let the deal run down before leaving on a free transfer.

However, it’s emerged today that officials at United want to offer the midfielder a new 12-month deal worth a staggering £125k-a-week.

Carrick‘s importance in the first-team has diminished throughout this season due to the arrivals of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, but the club still want to keep him around for another year.

One More Year

Officials at Old Trafford see Carrick as a leader in the dressing room and a vital character to have around the club due to him being a long-term servant.

The midfielder is the second-longest serving player at the club, behind Wayne Rooney, and Louis van Gaal is desperate to keep hold of him for at least one more year.

However, with the MLS calling, Carrick could use this opportunity to jump ship and experience one last challenge before he retires.
