Morgan Schneiderlin is not good enough to start games for Manchester United, says Michael Owen.
The France international was signed by then United manager Louis van Gaal for £24million in the summer of 2015 but has only played five minutes in the Premier League under new boss Jose Mourinho this campaign.
However, Owen thinks the 26-year-old should start alongside side veteran Michael Carrick in the holding midfield role for United’s test against Liverpool after the international break.
When being a pundit on BT Sport, Owen said: “When you think that the strength of Liverpool’s game is deep runs from midfield, I bet my bottom dollar that it won’t be Ander Herrera and Paul Pogba against Liverpool at Anfield
“He [Mourinho] would be really brave to do that.
“I think it should be Michael Carrick or Morgan Schneiderlin, although I don’t think he’s quite good enough to be a Manchester United regular.
“Marouane Fellaini I don’t think understands that role in this team so much.
“I would pick Carrick – or you could pick Herrera and Carrick and have Pogba as a number 10.” he added.
