Napoli are to make a move for controversial Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli when the transfer window reopens.

Balotelli, who drew ire from Reds fans and former players alike last week when he tried to swap shirts with Real Madrid defender Pepe during the Champions League tie, has had a rough time since arriving at Anfield at the end of August.

Now Italian side Napoli could be set to bring their former striker back to his native country.

The Reds would look to reclaim a chunk of the £16M they paid for the misfiring striker, and possibly use the cash to make a bid for West Brom star Saido Berahino.

Balotelli has never shied away from controversy in his career, the madcap striker in the past has thrown darts out of a training ground window at youth team players, and setting fireworks off in his bathroom.

Liverpool brought Balotelli in as a replacement for Luis Suarez, who was sold to Barcelona.
