Newcastle United are considering re-signing Mathieu Debuchy from Arsenal – just a year after selling him to the North London outfit.
The Frenchman left St James’ Park in order to take Bacary Sagna‘s place at the Emirates Stadium following his free-transfer move to Manchester City.
Despite featuring regularly during his debut season, a serious shoulder injury sustained against Stoke City left Debuchy on the sidelines for a few months.
During his time away, youngster Hector Bellerin deputised and impressed Arsene Wenger. The Spaniard then started on a regular basis and game-by-game continued to develop and improve.
After Debuchy recovered, it was still Bellerin being used as the right-back, and so far this season it’s still been the Spaniard getting to nod in the first-team.
With the European Championships next summer, Debuchy has admitted that he may seek a loan-move away in January in order to play regular first-team football, and according to reports, Newcastle could make a shock offer.
The 31-year-old could be in line for a shock return to the Magpies, but it’s also believed Paris Saint-Germain and AS Monaco are monitoring his situation in North London.
Arsenal paid £12million for Debuchy last summer.
