No title challenge without me- Suarez

Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez believes that if it hadn’t been for him, Liverpool wouldn’t have sustained a serious title challenge.

The Uruguayan scored 31 Premier League goals last season, at almost a goal a game, despite missing the first five matches.

Suarez was signed by Barcelona in the summer for £75 million, making it the third most expensive transfer in history.

Liverpool agonisingly missed out on winning their first title in 24 years by just two points to Manchester City.

Suarez was the Premier League’s top goal scorer and scooped up the PFA Player of the Year award and the Football Writers’ Footballer of the Year prize.

He had this to say to Barcelona’s official website. “I appreciate all the work the team did but I missed six matches and scored all those goals in the Premier League without being the penalty-taker.

“The truth is that I left very happy because if I hadn’t had the attitude and mentality to want to lead the team forward, I don’t think Liverpool would have done as well as they did.”
