Bayer Leverkusen secures loan signing of Borja Iglesias from Real Betis

Bayer Leverkusen has bolstered their attacking options by securing the loan signing of Spanish striker Borja Iglesias from Real Betis.

The move comes as a response to the absence of their top scorer, Victor Boniface, who is sidelined due to injury until April.

Leverkusen, currently leading the Bundesliga by a narrow margin, aims to maintain their title bid amidst fierce competition. With Iglesias joining the ranks, manager Xabi Alonso seeks to ensure a seamless continuation of the team’s successful season.

Iglesias, with 56 goals and 10 assists in 180 La Liga appearances, brings a wealth of experience to Leverkusen’s attacking line.

The Spanish international, capped twice for his country, expressed enthusiasm for the new challenge, emphasizing his commitment to contributing to Leverkusen’s success.

Iglesias arrives at Leverkusen following a successful spell with Real Betis, where he clinched the 2021/22 Copa del Rey title.

Iglesias is set to make his Leverkusen debut in the upcoming fixture against Darmstadt, followed by a crucial DFB Cup quarter-final clash against Stuttgart.

The highlight of his early tenure will be the Bundesliga showdown against reigning champions Bayern Munich on Matchday 21.

As Leverkusen aims to maintain their lead at the top of the Bundesliga table, Iglesias’s arrival injects fresh firepower into their attacking arsenal, providing manager Xabi Alonso with valuable options as they navigate through the challenges of the season ahead.
